People have told me repeatedly how good Mr. Bartley’s Burger Cottage, as shown in the movie The Social Network. I finally had a chance to go there. I went at 11:05 on a Friday morning because I was next door at Harvard University Bookstore, so five minutes after they opened so I was the only one in there. They took my order. The atmosphere is very college town, beer posters, kitschy signs and Harvard paraphernalia. I can see why college kids like it. The table in the middle of the room was the biggest, so I suggest going a group of four or less.
I got the Scott Brown burger because I was trying not to have just a plain burger. So it had bacon, cheese, grilled onions and would have had jalapenos except I don’t eat that. It was an extremely full burger. The burger was well cooked and so was the toppings. Was it the best burger I’d ever had? No not at all. Was it good? Yeah, extremely.
However, the french fries were kind of lackluster. They were just regular french fries. They could have been out of a bag for all I knew. I’m so used to the burger fries combo that one could easily cancel the other out.
So my thoughts? Bartley’s, really good, but really expensive. Everything cost me about 12. At Fil-a-busters I could have the same combo for $5. I think Boston Burger Co., would be about the same as Bartley’s but I like their fries better. I do acknowledge that BBC would be more expensive with the fries though. But if I’m in the area and there’s not a long line, I could see how this would be my first choice.
