For nostalgia’s sake Sashi and I went to Kickass Cupcakes out in Davis Square. While they’re good, they’re a little dry. But I do on occasion enjoy their specialty cupcakes. So their special yesterday was Oink. And yes, it has to do with a pig, bacon, in fact. It was a chocolate cupcake, with a bit of bacon infused into it (and some strange substance that looked like marshmallow fluff), maple syrup frosting, and a candied bacon garnish and a little bit of sea salt on top. The cake was surprisingly moist. Kickass Cupcakes’ cupcakes are usually a little on the dry side, but the frosting’s richness usually makes up for it. But this cupcake was moist, I enjoyed the subtle hint of bacon in the chocolate cupcake and the sweetness of the maple syrup. It was breakfast in a cupcake. But the candied bacon on top was just so salty. And I mean extremely salty. It’s like they forgot to put the sugar in the candy mixture and just put salt instead. When I first bit into it, I still had a bit of maple syrup taste in my mouth so it wasn’t that bad. But as I chewed on, my face tightened up in salty pain. I almost cried because it was so salty. I’ve been so excited to try a chocolate bacon cupcake and now I’ve been so disappointed. I know this can be executed better but if it weren’t for the garnish I’d feel this would have been a win.

About akindafoodblog

I'm a picky foodie in training. I can't stop talking about food, so writing about it seems like a normal transition. There are so many foods I don't like, and that's a bit of a problem. I don't really know how to cook but I love to bake. So I'm on a culinary journey and I want to invite everyone to join me.
