Food Pyramid…no Wait.

So it’s no longer the food pyramid, as we all know, it’s called MyPlate.  Before high school we had the old pyramid.  Grains at the bottom, vegetables and fruit, then protein and dairy and sweets/sugar at the very top.

When I entered high school they changed it to that pyramid that goes horizontally instead of vertically. They use different colors to represent each food group.  It has a set of stairs on the side to represent exercise. The base of the food group represents how much of it you should consume a day. It’s supposed to be a little more personal.

Now this new one, MyPlate is supposed to be the most personal to each consumer. It’s supposed to make the average plate more plant based and more user friendly.  It’s much easier to determine when you look at a plate how much of what should be there instead of determining what exactly is “2-3 servings.”

I suppose it is easier, but for those of us that have been around since the first food pyramid hope that it’s the last change. It’s been hard to remember that the food pyramid has changed, especially because I always think it’s the first one even now.

About akindafoodblog

I'm a picky foodie in training. I can't stop talking about food, so writing about it seems like a normal transition. There are so many foods I don't like, and that's a bit of a problem. I don't really know how to cook but I love to bake. So I'm on a culinary journey and I want to invite everyone to join me.
